Since Wegmans opened its first Main Line location in Malvern, I’ve become a weekly regular for groceries, craft beer, prescriptions and dinner. And just when I thought I couldn’t spend more time (or $ there), Wegman’s 80th store location is opening … a mile from my office!
The new 123,000 sq. ft. King of Prussia store, located at the intersection of N. Gulph and N. Warner Roads, is certainly a welcome addition to the community. Scheduled to open Sunday, May 6, this location boasts an incredible array of culinary options, carried out by a 600-person team.
New features include an outdoor fireplace with seating for dining al fresco. Executive Chef Chris Happel oversees The Market Café, which seats 300 indoors and outdoors. This includes The Pub, where food is served to order and a new Sly Fox Pale Ale on tap is brewed exclusively for this location. (Note: Tipping is welcomed at this Pub).
A future development is the opening of Wegmans’ second-ever stand alone restaurant, slated for this Fall, just steps from the grocery store. Next Door Bar & Grill will be modeled after the Pittsford, NY location; check out that particular menu here.
For any food and drink enthusiast, this store is the place to indulge your whims. Offerings include a French pâtisserie; a cheese shop with 300 specialty and artisan varieties; a tea shop featuring more than 500 premium teas; and over 800 selections of domestic and imported beer. The sushi bar offers rolls, sashimi and Japanese salads; and a make-your-own trail mix station boasts a variety of granola, nuts, seeds and dried fruit.
Most notable is the store’s affection for fruits and vegetables–up to 700 different varieties on any given day. Wegmans continues its quest to work with local farms–look for produce from nearby growers at front of the store.
But with options galore, what are the best food finds? Wegmans’ Media Relations Director Jo Natale, shared, “Try the garlic cheese finishing butter. I use this on sautéed mushrooms, green beans or a little atop of a steak.” Of course I consulted other local devotees for their recommendations:
“The Golden Jewel Blend is a nice blend of couscous, tri-colored orzo pasta, split baby garbanzo beans and red quinoa.” – Kristen
The Moroccan lentil soup and the flatbread pizza, which is great to share as an appetizer.” – Jamie
“I think it goes without saying that the beer section is my favorite.” – Joe
“The harvest salad includes dried apricots, apples, cranberries, walnuts, blue cheese and their unique tarragon vinaigrette dressing. It’s a hit every time.” – Elizabeth
“I’d frequent their fantastic cheese shop on a regular basis. It’s like visiting Total Wine – only for cheese.” – David
“A recent find for me is their mini-apples that come in a bag. They are a little bigger than a clementine and just the right size for a quick snack when a mammoth apple is just too much to finish.” – Betsy
“The Wegmans salami–particularly the sopressata and spicy fennel–has quality ingredients and tastes authentic.” – Dan
“I usually pair the wheat coco pops with a salad or soup. I love them because I can get the crunch of a crouton or cracker minus the extra calories.” – Jess
“The Flat Out wraps come in spinach and honey wheat … they are full of fiber and protein and have this great texture and taste.” – Alexis
And my cart is never complete without seasoned roasted beef from the deli, brown sugar BBQ marinated chicken and pork tenderloin, and of course the chocolate indulgence ice cream. Whatever your whim, you’re bound to fulfill it. Shop to it this weekend, and let me know what you find.
